Gareth Emery
(aka GTR) is recognised the world over
as one of dance music’s most established young artists.
Since being tipped by Mixmag
in 2002, the 24
year old has become a regular feature at
infamous clubs like
Godskitchen,
Slinky, The Gallery
and Passion in
his native UK, whilst holding an international
residency in Vancouver and playing all over
the globe. The remainder of his time is divided between
producing genre-defining club tracks under his various
guises and running Five AM,
one of the UK’s coolest trance
record labels. In
Solotrance we
had the pleasure to interview him and we also take
advantage to prove a new experience that we
will carry out starting from now in all the interviews,
an experience that we have not observed that
they carry out other diffusion sites and of the one
that we want to be a little bit pioneers and it is
that everybody that visits us can ask what wants to
the person that we will interview. We
hope you like the interview.

Questions
of the people of Solotrance´s forum
1º First of all a question that we made to
all people who we interview in Solotrance: Define
in few words for people who is Gareth Emery (GTR).
Some guy from Southampton in the UK
who produces the occasional dance
track, gets to DJ in lots of cool
exotic places, and co-runs a rather nice trance
label called Five
AM. Or you could check www.garethemery.com
2º Speentje ask: have you upcoming productions
that will be released this year?
There are loads: new Gareth
Emery & Jon O’Bir called Bouncebackability
on Five AM,
a track on Enhanced Records
called Emery & Kirsch
– Lose Yourself, a new one on Lange
called Digital Blues – Digital
Blues / Definition, and finally one on
Motion called
Gareth Emery & Mark
Dedross pres. Wirefly – The Verdict, which
comes with a nice Octagen
remix.
3º Speentje ask: if it´s afirmative,
on which labels? (Five AM of course, hahaha!!!)
Have also replied to this above…
4º Speentje ask: in relation with the previous
questions, are you already working on something new?
New projects?
The main thing I want to do at the moment is finally
produce a solo Gareth Emery
EP – it’s hard to believe but there has
never been a Gareth Emery
single, and it’s my main name!
5º Shna ask: How UK’s trance scene is?
Not bad, it declined a lot after the
glories of 1999
but it’s stabilised and I wouldn’t say it’s any worse
now than it was in 2003 or
so. We still need more kids getting into it as the
clubbers are getting older, but if the
music is good enough these things will fix themselves.
6º Speentje ask: what makes it so different
with of the rest of european one? (In relation with
the previous question)
The UK scene probably has the best
clubs and the most big names coming to
play every week. Holland has
better festivals, but in terms of a weekly
clubs, I still think the UK is the richest
scene in the world. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s
the best – often people in countries with smaller
scenes appreciate guest DJs more, as they’re
not getting the big names playing every week.
7º Shna ask: What producer would you like
to colaborate with in the producing of a theme?
Most of the legends – I wouldn’t kick Ferry
Corsten, MIKE
or Marco V out
of the studio!
8º Shna ask: Which are your productions that
you are proudder or more satisfied?
Mistral
of course… also Escapade
by Gareth Emery & Jon
O’Bir is a big favourite of mine, and I
still love my remix of Nova
– All This Love. Those three are probably
my three personal favourites. Also, the latest track
I’ve just done will always be a favourite as it sounds
current and “now” to me.
9º Cazador de Vinilos ask: When GTR isn’t
listening Trance, What is he listening?
Any other sort of dance
music, from drum
and bass to breakbeat
to electro – I’m
open minded. Also I listen to a lot of decent
rock, US emo,
punk, classical,
hip-hop… variety
is the spice of life.
10º Raul ask: How do you think that the trance
scene will be in the future?
Bigger, better, and more
underground hopefully, with more of an
emphasis on having fun on a night out – too many trance
fans are geeks and don’t seem to go out
for a good time, but to criticise the tunes and the
DJs. That isn’t why I got into it.
